You have seen, and will continue to see, and read, the images and the stories, of that day.
These are my soul thoughts . . .
How can that be?
Seems like only yesterday
– so burned into my heart and memory it is.
I remember that morning
– cleaning house, listening to the radio when the first news broke in on the song being played.
I remember turning on the TV and seeing the horror of America being under attack.
I remember calling Rick
– me in tears, him in tears, with him telling me he was on his way home and for me to hold on till he got to me.
I remember calling our kids
– they were in Texas while we were living & working in Idaho.
And feeling a million miles, a million years, away from them.
And then, the next 24 hours as Rick and I sat glued to the TV
– watching in disbelief, listening to the words, seeing the devastation and destruction.
When it all became too much for us to comprehend, we walked outside for a bit of fresh air.
Only the silence of absolute quiet airspace was deafening.
As well as the heaviness of silence in the RV park that was normally bustling with activities,
comings and goings of those around us.
Rick and I held to one another in that sharp realization
that life would never again be the same as it was just that morning when he left for work.
We had no idea the complex change that was taking place,
and that would continue throughout the rest of his life,
as well as long after he was gone.
We just knew something had changed.
I sit here this morning, remembering 26 years ago.
The normalcy of life.
Before.
And I remember 25 years ago.
As well as remembering the thousands of changes and times in these last 25 years.
So yes, my heart and mind find an unanswered question –
How can it have been 25 years?
To me, it will always be –
“Just yesterday”.
Never to be forgotten.
And should anyone who wasn’t here 25 years ago wonder what it was like,
or the truth of the events?
I can absolutely assure you that this was NOT AI.
I only wish it were.
Sigh.
I pray for the safety of our peoples today, and always.
I hope you will remember too . . .
even if you weren’t here then.
I hope we all find a way today to honor the legacy of the heroes of that day and since.
Comfort, Hope and Strength to us all.
