4th of July - Growing up
When I think back to my childhood 4th of Julys, a swirl of memories fills my mind, painted in the soft hues of dawn.
It’s funny how some things are so entwined with certain days.
At Momma’s table, and later at ours, celebrations meant many things.
There was the reason to celebrate
– a holiday, a birthday, an anniversary, good grades on the report cards,
just having a good day,
or the many times we made up days to celebrate . . .
National Watch TV in your PJ’s Day . . .
National Have Ice Cream for Breakfast Day . . .
National Read to Your Momma while she cooks Day . . .
and a hundred more that we grabbed out of the air so we could celebrate 😉
Cakes were mixed and poured into pans,
steps were careful as the cakes baked
– didn’t want to make one fall 😉
Cookies were rolled, cut, baked and decorated
– or dropped into those melt-in-your-mouth “ugly” cookies.
Tables and counters were filled to overflowing with foods and drinks
– leaving barely enough room for a plate here or there.
And then . . .
there was the Pie.
Somewhere along the way Pie became the signal that THIS was a celebration!
My, oh my!
How I love Pie!
And of course, Coffee was always on!
Still is, just saying 😉
Here you will find some of the stories about those days
– yesteryear memories, and not so long ago as well.
Gotcha a chair right here, a good cup of Coffee
. . . and of course – PIE! 😉
When I think back to my childhood 4th of Julys, a swirl of memories fills my mind, painted in the soft hues of dawn.
There are stories and memories that do not belong to a single day, or a single season in our life.
