For the times and places where Life has hurt.
Rick and the kids always said that my mending basket was the “black hole” of the house.
They exaggerated. 🤦♀️🤣
I did eventually get around to going through that basket and mending those items.
Just took a while.
And yes, there were times that once mended,
the clothes didn’t fit them any longer
– or the items actually became something different.
After the mending, sometimes the stitches are visible, the repair is easily seen.
Sometimes, the repair changes the shape, and purpose of the item.
Sometimes it takes a long time to get from the torn to the mended.
In going through my writings I have realized many times Life hurt,
and how those times got put away into a basket of memories.
As I dig into those writings and memories, many don’t fit anywhere
– not really.
Odd memories and pieces that tell the backstory of a quilt.
Have you ever looked at the backside of a quilt?
Before the clean and pretty backing is added.
The loose threads, the knots, the uneven stitches
– it’s not pretty.
But isn’t that Life?
We are all pieces in this Quilt called Life.
And if you look closely
– yeah, it’s not all pretty.
Some of these writings may be about a battle faced,
a defeat dealt with,
or a victory won.
Some may be inspirational.
Some may be boring.
All of them are true
– because they happened to me.
And this is how I dealt with the storms that raged around me,
and within me.
Mending isn’t always about becoming what we were.
More often, it is about becoming who we are Now.
