There are nights when sleep curls around me, holds me close, and rests my soul as well as my body.
But not always.
There are nights when sleep hides in the shadows of Midnight.
That’s when I find myself awake when everyone else seems to be sleeping.

Thoughts are louder after midnight.
Loss is heavier.
Grief is closer.
Loneliness is more alive.
Memories haunt the darkness.
Questions pound against the quiet.
I laugh into the shadows – usually over some nonsense.
This is when I say to the moon what I could not say to the sun.
Ever have a night like this?
There’s a chair waiting for you.
